Trainer Bio

On February 8, 2014, Kim Hammond became the all-time leading Thoroughbred female trainer and the first woman to win 2000 races. This happened at Turfway Park in northern Kentucky with a horse named Big Smooth.

Daughter of successful trainer, Everett Hammond, Kim began training independently in 1980. Her wins include five stakes horses with three stakes wins including a horse named Battle Cat who won 17 races for Hammond.

She bases at Turfway Park and Indiana Downs for several different owners and usually has 30 to 35 horses in training.

Kim also breeds some of her own stock keeping 8 to 9 mares at her farm in Shelbyville, Indiana. She stands the stallion, Exterior who's first crop are two-year-olds of 2014. Exterior is a multiple graded-placed son of Distant View out of an Alydar mare.
