Rosie Napravnik

Biography:

Rosie began to ride in pony races at the age of seven.  Her father, Charles is a farrier and mother Cindy trained event horses.  By age 13, she began working for trainer Jonathan Sheppard, then joined the shed of trainer Dickie Small at 16 and began exercising racehorses in 2004. She won her first race as a licensed jockey on June 9, 2005 for the recently deceased Small.

Rosie has made the top 10 listing for jockeys for two years in a row and is the highest-ranked woman jockey in North America. In 2010, she moved her tack to the Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans.  After a period of adversity with the riding colony there, Rosie “proved” herself and earned the respect of the male riders and went on to claim leading rider titles at that track for 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. She became the first woman to win the leading rider title at Keeneland in the fall of 2013.

She won the Kentucky Oaks on Untapable this year and in 2012 on Believe You Can. Napravnik also won the Breeder’s Cup Juvenile the same year on Shanghai Bobby.  Other tops mounts include Mylute, Pants On Fire, Vicar’s In Trouble and others.

She is currently riding the Kentucky circuit while traveling for engagements around the country. Rosie has a 5-win day during the Spring Churchill meet. She will be at Keeneland for the October meet.
