Joan Scott

Biography:

Joan Scott, a Penn Laird, Va., native, established her own public training stable, Joan Scott Racing, in 2002 after compiling a long list of accomplishments working in the thoroughbred industry. She galloped for and worked as an assistant to trainers in California, New York, Maryland, Louisiana, Kentucky, Florida and Illinois. She has worked for trainers such as Hall of Famer Bud Delp, Elliott Walden, Carl Nafzger, Troy Young (winner of the premier Claiming Crown), Dicky Small, Al Stall, and Hal Wiggins.  Scott also worked for Chris Speckert while he conditioned horses such as Pleasant Tap, Pleasant Stage, and Another Review. She was the Kentucky based assistant to Nick Zito, solely responsible for the preparation and racing of a string of horses owned by Marylou Whitney Stables.  As a business partner in the Kenneally Racing Stable, she helped train and saddle many winners in Kentucky, Illinois, and Louisiana. Respected for her skills and hard work, Scott is dedicated to both her horses and their owners. Since founding her own racing stable, she has been privileged to train many quality horses for some wonderful clients. Among the numerous winners and stakes winners she has trained, her biggest career win to date was the GI Vinery Madison Stakes at Keeneland with the talented filly, Dr. Zic. She also won the GII Kelso Breeder's Cup Handicap at Belmont with Freefourinternet. Most recently, she was invited to Royal Ascot 2014 with Ancil, a five year old gelding who set a new track record in the 2014 Turf Dash Cup, Tampa. Ancil is his owners’ first thoroughbred. Joan Scott is stabled in Kentucky through the spring and summer and ships to Florida in the winter.
