John Amerman

Biography: 

The Amerman’s (Jerry and John) became involved in thoroughbred racing by joining a racing syndicate.  The management of the syndicate was excellent and had many winners, including a horse that won the Arlington Million. After learning the basics of thoroughbred ownership through involvement in the syndicate, Amerman Racing, LLC was established in 1995.  In total, the Ameman’s have won 70 stakes, including 25 Grade I stakes. Among the 60 horses currently owned by the Amerman’s, there are 15 mares in the breeding program.  The Amerman’s own Peacefield Farm, a ranch in Temecula, California, which is dedicated to rehabilitating race and show horses. John was elected to the Board of Stewards of The Jockey Club.  He has been a member of the California Horse Racing Board and the Thoroughbred Owners of California, the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association and the American Graded Stakes Committee.  Jerry has served on the University of Kentucky Gluck Equine Research Foundation and the Center for Equine Health at the University of California, Davis. John received  a bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth and an MBA from Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business Administration.  He served as Chairman and CEO of Mattel for eleven years.  Prior to Mattel, he was President of the American Chicle Group, a subsidiary of the Warner-Lambert Company which is now part of Pfizer. Jerry graduated from Drew University and did graduate work at Vanderbilt University.
