Suzie Oldham

Biography:

Born in Cheverly, Maryland and raised in Southeast Texas and Louisiana, Suzie began a lifelong multi-career in thoroughbred racing first as a jockey then owner, breeder and bloodstock advisor. She was one of the pioneering women jockeys of the time riding races in Kentucky, the Mid-West and South Florida.

It was no wonder that Suzie would develop a passion and love for thoroughbreds having been born “at the quarter pole” as they say. Her father, Clarence Picou who was a riding sensation of the late 40’s, was leading rider at Bowie Race Track in Maryland when she was born. After his riding career, Mr. Picou became a top trainer of over 30 years including a win in the G1 Super Derby. Her Uncle, James Picou who trained several graded winners was based in New York for many years and trained for Fred Hooper among others. Horse racing was more than a path to follow but an endearing lifestyle for Suzie. Her husband, John Oldham rode for nearly 20 years including Two-Year-Old Champion Rockhill Native who won the Blue Grass Stakes.

After riding races, Mrs. Oldham was employed at The Thoroughbred Record and Thoroughbred Times for nearly 10 years as an advertising executive and photo journalist. As an equine photographer her pictures have been published in most national and several international thoroughbred magazines.

Suzie Oldham then entered the breeding side of the industry representing such stallion farms as Dixiana Farm, Spendthrift Farm, Stonewall and Darby Dan promoting and marketing stallions and seasons. She has evaluated conformation of stallions, mares and offspring for the farms and their customers.

Currently at The Jockey Club, Suzie assists with the maintenance, development and customer service of OwnerView.com. She has been an industry consultant and production assistant of both Thoroughbred Owner Conferences.
