Breed-Back Rule:

In order to qualify as an ACCREDITED WV BRED horse the horse must be foaled in WV. If the owner of the horse is a WV resident there is no breed-back requirement, however if the mare is not a resident mare she must be inspected prior to foaling by the WVTDF inspector. If the mare is a WV resident mare – meaning she resides in the state year round and is on a resident mare list and is known to the inspector as a resident mare- there is no breed-back requirement to make her foal eligible as a WV BRED horse. If the mare and the owner are not WV residents and she is not in foal to an Accredited WV stallion she must breed back to a WV Accredited stallion.

Horses who are sired by an accredited WV Stallion but do not foal out in WV are eligible for Accreditation as WV SIRED only. Sire owners and owners of the WV sired only horses are eligible for WVTDF bonus money. The breeders of these horses are not eligible for WV breeders’ bonuses
