Trainer Bio

Born: July 24, 1956, New Orleans, LaFamily: Wife Renee, daughter Shelbi Wayne started working for Hall of Fame trainer Jack Van Berg as a teenager. Learning from the ground up. He eventually began exercising horses in the mornings and riding competitively, scoring his first victory on May 20, 1974 at Churchill Downs on a horse named Hellfire. In 1977, Wayne was ranked at the second leading rider in North America. In all, he won 1,792 races in a nine-year riding career before retirement in 1983. Upon retirement, Wayne stayed involved with Van Berg’s barn.
 His first major stakes success came with the Darrel and Evelyn Yates-owned Crypto Star, who captured the 1997 Louisiana Derby and the Arkansas Derby en route to a fifth place finish in the Kentucky Derby.
 Since then, Wayne has won two editions of the Breeder’s Cup Juvenile Fillies-the 2006 running with Dreaming of Anna and the 2008 edition with She Be Wild. Both Fillies were named Eclipse Award winning 2 year old fillies in their respective freshman seasons.
 In 2011, a two year old homebred filly of Kenneth and Sarah Ramsey’s Stephanie’s Kitten won the Grade I, Alcibiades stakes at Keeneland. Stephanie’s Kitten finished out the year with a win in the Breeder’s Cup Juvenile Filly Turf.
 Wayne has been leading trainer at Arlington park ten times, the last time being in 2012. He has collected titles at Sportman’s Park and Hawthorne Racecourse as well.
