About Us:

The Cornell University Equine Hospital

Part of the Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine - offers state-of-the-art patient care for horses in a resourceful setting. Our board-certified specialists, dedicated and skilled residents, licensed veterinarian technicians, and supervised students work together to provide the best available emergency care, diagnostic procedures, treatment, and hospitalization for equine patients. We are open around-the-clock every day of the year for emergency and critical care cases. Routine and specialized health care services are available and include internal medicine, neurology, orthopedic surgery, upper respiratory surgery, soft tissue surgery, customized farrier services, ophthalmology, dentistry, reproduction medicine, cardiology, dermatology, and nutrition consultation. Services are supported by up-to-date diagnostic procedures such as body ultrasound, endoscopy of the respiratory system, stomach and bladder, high resolution radiography, CT scan, and MRI techniques. Many equine treatments pioneered at Cornell (i.e. cartilage resurfacing, standing surgical procedures including tie-back) are being further developed with the goal of improving success and minimizing morbidity.

The Equine Hospital facilities were designed to accommodate horses and their specific needs. Barns feature large and well-ventilated stalls, safe and non-slip flooring and bedding, padded stalls for neurologic cases, a special perinatal ward for mares and foals, an equipped and air-conditioned intensive care unit, turn-out paddocks, and modern imaging and surgical facilities. In addition, an efficient biosecurity program has been in place to prevent hospital infections which features a designated isolation facility for hospitalization of patients with contagious diseases.

Equine Performance Clinic

The Equine Performance Clinic at the Cornell University Hospital provides clinical service to equine athletes targeting optimum performance. Horses from throughout the northeastern United States are referred to our facility for evaluation and diagnosis of performance limiting disorders.

EPC works with some of the world's leading veterinary scientists and clinicians, including cardiologists, oncologists, radiologists, and neurologists so that we can offer exceptional services for sporting horses.

Advanced diagnostic procedures available include MRI, pulmonary, external and esophageal ultrasound, endoscopy, over ground scope for field exams, and utilization of our high-speed treadmill for cardiac testing. We can perform minimally-invasive and traditional procedures to treat cardiac problems, diseases of the larynx, orthopedic conditions, and neurological issues.  Our sport medicine program also has a large clinical and research focus on regenerative therapy (PRP, Stem-cell etc.) for assisted treatment in cartilage resurfacing and tendon/ligament injuries.

Clinicians and staff working in our hospital strive ensure our patients receive the most comprehensive care 24/7 for the best outcome possible.
